History and development of computer
- Abacus :-
- it was a first machanical device developed in China
- it was first counting machine.
- It was used for addition/ subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers
- There are many of beeds which are used to count the number
- Pascaline Adding Machine
- it developed by Blaise pascal and Pascaline in 1642
- Blaise pascal develped a manual machine that was used for the simple addition and subtraction.this machine is called as 'Pascaline' or pascals'calculator
- This machine with some wheels which count the numbers when the wheel rolls.
- This machine is also used presently in many of the speedometers of the vehicals
- Leibniz Calculator:
- in 1671 invented a machanical device calles leibniz calc.
- it was an improvisation of pascaline .
- it can perform add. sub.,multi, div and square root also.
- Difference engine & Analytical engine
- It was become the base of modern computer.
- charles babbage invented a working model of the machanical computer.
- it called a difference engine developed in 1822
- and analytical engine developed in 1833...this unit worked like a modern computer.
all the computer nowadays are based on them.
Tabulating machine
- Developed by Herman Hollerith
- Designed was controlled by the punched cards it operated by the electricity.
- Punch cards were used to store and record the instructions
- Harman Hollerith developed a machine for 'JanGarna' in 1890.
- Further he established a company for developing the punch cards.
- In 1924, this company was renamed as 'IBM'.
Howard Aiken and Mark-I
- in 1944, He developed the first electro- mechanical machine which is named as 'Mark-I'.
- This computer was made of 30 billians of electric connections.
- It was capable of performing a mulitiplication in 6 seconds and a division in 12 seconds.
- it was capable of executing long computation automatically
Atanasoff-Berry Computer :
- In 1945, Atanasoff and Clifford Berry developed a electronic machine.
- It was called as ABC
- It was the first Electronic Digital Computer
ENIAC (1943-46)-
- ENIAC stands for Eloctronic Numerical Integrator And Calculator.
- The size of this Computer was 20 * 40 sqr Feet.
- It was comprised with 1800 vaccume tubes .
EDSAC (1947-49)
- EDSAC stands for Electronic Delay Storage Autometic Calculator.
- It was the first computer where the program was get executed.
- The organization and structure of this computer was also similar to the ENIAC.
EDVAC
- Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer is a modern type of computer
- it was John neumann who started the practice of storing data instruction in binary code
UNIVAC(1951)
- UNIVAC stands for Universal Automatic Computer
- It developed by j presper eckert and john mauchly
- It was first digital computer that was used for business.
further IBM developed 701 Commercial Computer that was based on theory of UNIVAC.
